The Hunter's Table

The Hunter's Table (Ger. "Der Tisch des Jaegers") is the first artwork in a series of AI-driven still-life pieces by Hannes Hummel, exploring the creative potential of artificial intelligence in fine arts. Drawing inspiration from the tradition of Dutch still-life paintings, the artwork utilizes elements from a custom-trained dataset composed of CC0 images derived from original Flemish oil paintings provided by the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The piece meticulously merges traditional elements of the Dutch Golden Age still-life genre with the surreal and unpredictable characteristics of AI-generated outputs. Each element in the composition was carefully selected and arranged manually by the artist, blending classical aesthetics with modern digital techniques. In addition to generative source images, scans of dried oil paintings were used to create a vintage patina, simulating the effects of aging caused by environmental changes like light, temperature, and humidity.
