Colors, Shapes & Poetry

My artworks and projects have always been about reflecting on the most important and wondrous aspects of life; Specifically the importance of beauty, color, expression, and form. Regardless of what chain the art exists on, my goal is always the same: to create art that allows you to enjoy the beauty of things and to connect that art with people of like mind.

The Process

My process takes different iterations depending on the piece, but in general I focus on a specific aspect that inspires me-- a word, a color, a feeling, a concept, an object. For this artwork my fixation was on street art --specifically graffiti. Once I've created the first several layers of paint (usually varieties of skies, some colored and textured canvas layers, etc), I begin to warp, distort, and manipulate the layers to create various shapes and forms. It'll then be days of altering the composition, adjusting colors and multi-layering new elements to create something that visually engages and connects with me. Finally, I end the artwork by creating the accompanying poem. Poetry is a key and crucial aspect of my art as it adds a deeper context to the work that visuals alone would not accomplish; it is this relationship between the two that makes my art unique to me. Being able to tell a story and draw the viewer both into my visual and written world are equally important. After all is said and done, I only hope that people can look at the artwork, read my poetry, and be connected to it in the same way I am.
